Ruby Red Lemon Drop Martini

Ruby Red Lemondrop Martini

OK, let’s call a spade a spade people… Regardless of who you are rooting for, regardless if you are a Democrat, a Republican, an Independent or somewhere in between, I think we can all agree on one thing – we are ALL going to need some liquor to get us through to Election Day in November!  Attack ads, debates, and junk mail, oh my! It’s only the middle of March and my head already hurts!  So I thought, to help us all take the edge off a bit and unwind, I’d give you one unbelievably delicious Election Day cocktail recipe – the Ruby Red Lemondrop martini.

Trust me when I tell you, this is no ordinary martini.  It is the perfect mix of tartness, sweet and sour – it is utter perfection.  There is just one rule: PLEASE do NOT blame ME for how easy these go down the hatch!  They are just so yummy!  I strongly advise on stopping after two… (Or at least think about it, after you have had one…lol)  You have been warned!  I am grateful to be able to pass this along to you.  I was lucky enough to convince a bartender to give me the recipe one night after asking very nicely about six times… 😉

How to make a Ruby Red Lemondrop Martini

First things first – ingredient check. You will need the following delectable ingredients to make the World’s Most Amazing Martini… OK – maybe I am going a “little” bit overboard.  Guess you are going to have to make one to find out for yourself!  Anyway, here’s the list: ruby red grapefruit juice, lemon juice, simple syrup, Absolute Ruby Red vodka, some sugar for the rim and a lemon wedge.  That’s all…Absolute Ruby Red vodkaThis is a very easy recipe which means you can whip them up whenever you like, and however much you like. 😋 The key to this recipe is really the proportions of each ingredient.  One important thing is to use fresh squeezed grapefruit and lemon juice if at all possible.  Lemons, as we know are available in our grocery stores all year long.  Ruby red grapefruits on the other hand…. well, they are not there all of the time.  If you can’t find fresh grapefruits, a bottled version will do.  Just make sure that it is ruby red grapefruit juice, it really makes a difference.  And as for the simple syrup, its very easy to make AND also readily available in most stores.  Totally your call.

Let’s Make This Martini

First of all you will want to sugar the rim – DO NOT leave out this step.  It just won’t be the same…the sugar on the rim balances out the tartness of the grapefruit and lemon juices to utter sweet, but not too sweet, perfection.  Mmmmm……

Then, add the juices, simple syrup, and vodka with about one cup of ice into a martini shaker or other container that you can shake without making a mess.  Let it sit for about a minute or so to chill, then shake, shake, shake that martini!  Lastly, slooooowly, pour it into your beautifully sugar-rimmed glass, slide on the lemon wedge, sit back, close your eyes, and experience a sip like no other.  Like I said, they go down pretty smoothly and will have a smile on your face in no time.  And being in the thick of an election year – who couldn’t use that! Cheers!
